Dentures for your tooth loss needs
Dentures are prosthetic devices made to replace missing teeth. Most dentures are removable, although there are some that are put in place permanantly. There are many different denture designs, some are implanted and some others use clasping onto other teeth or bonding.
Types of Dentures
Removable Partial Dentures these are for people who are missing some of their teeth but have at least 2 teeth that the partial can clasp onto. Fixed partial dentures are connected by a bridge of crowns to the other teeth and therefore fixed in position.
Complete dentures are for people missing all of their teeth and these will replace all the missing teeth. This can be just the lower teeth, the upper teeth or both.
Advantages
The advantages of dentures are numerous but the number one reason is to look better. People tend to look better when they have teeth.
Chewing ability is improved
Improves pronounciation in some people.
Better self esteem
Problems with dentures for the first day or so is that there is something in the mouth that isnt food. So people tend to make alot more saliva and at a much higher rate than normal. After about 24 hours this will return to normal. Gagging is also a very common problem, especially if you have a sensitive gag reflex. once you become adjusted to them being in your mouth this will improve. There can also be loss of taste and problems keeping them in place. Dental implants can greatly improve on all of these problems and improve the denture wearing experience by increasing stability, and also saves the bone from wearing away.
Be sure to find a reputable dentist when looking for dentures, or if dentures are not for you then you may wish to consider some form of cosmetic surgery. As you want to be sure you get a good quality denture with a good fit.
